Georgia has a huge potential in the field of mobile applications but lacks qualified personnel. The main goal of GAU and its partners for GeoLab was the development of this profession for young generations and further support of student employment.
As a winner of the competition held by the Georgian Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA), in 2015, GAU together with Leavingstone and Geocell founded GeoLab, an institute and research laboratory with ultramodern IT equipment.
GeoLab is a laboratory of innovative technologies. This is a space 24/7 open for implementing different interesting projects. An educational center is an inseparable part of GeoLab, where every interested person can obtain an education in their preferred direction, such as design, web programming, mobile programming, game development, encoding and communications.
Each educational direction in GeoLab is divided into specific specialties. The lecturers of the educational center are the practitioner-professionals of their corresponding spheres that make the students able to implement practical projects along with studying and work on the realization of their own ideas. In addition, a 4-month internship program is available in GeoLab, where young people can obtain a stronger work and study experience.
GAU and GeoLab joint certificate program has had many successful alumni. In the frames of Hackathon and other international competitions - many innovative and usable software and mobile applications were created by students of GAU's Informatics & Engineering School. GeoLab regularly holds open public lectures, training sessions and masterclasses with international experts.
GeoLab offers educational projects for special age groups: 50+ and GeoLab Junior. 50+ project is intended for older age people. During the course, the participants study how to use different online services. GeoLab Junior offers short courses of graphic design and programming to students of upper classes in high school.
