International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor Program offers students a modern and interdisciplinary education in International Relations.
The program allows students to obtain comprehensive knowledge of International Relations Theory and Principles; to deepen their knowledge and improve practical skills in the following specialties: Political Theories, History, Philosophy, Nationalism, Safety, Terrorism and Major Challenges of Modern Politics and Economy. Knowledge of theoretical and philosophical concepts in a historical context helps students to develop a better understanding of international and domestic politics.
The curriculum represents a balanced combination of politics and international relations theories, philosophy, history, sociology and economics. It is rich in compulsory and elective courses essential to international relations, foreign policy and European integration.
The curriculum includes courses for written and research skills development. Taking into consideration the students’ interests in perfecting their professional English, the program offers Specialty courses in English, mainly for upper-level students. The program also includes elective courses in a second foreign language and several foreign languages are offered.
After completion of the Bachelor Program, students will be able to think critically and study modern international and intercultural challenges such as global inequality, economic dependency, conflicts and safety, and development of organizations such as the United Nations, European Union and NATO in the context of globalization.
Acting diplomats also participate in the international organization modeling project.
For the purpose of academic and intellectual encouragement of successful bachelor degree students, the university supports their research initiatives financially through a small grants program.
Bachelor's degree program students have the opportunity to participate in foreign exchange programs and study abroad in higher educational institutions.

Only Georgian citizens who have the state high school diploma certifying full general education (or a document equal to it), can be enrolled in the International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor's Degree Program, based on the Unified National Examinations (UNE) results. Applicants must indicate the relevant code for the GAU International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor's Degree Program when registering for the UNE.
Students can be enrolled in the International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor's Degree Program through the mobility program twice a year, within the timeframe established by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, in compliance with mandatory procedures and fixed rules established by the University. Accredited foreign higher educational institution students can be enrolled in the International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor's Degree Program on the basis of the order issued by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia.

The students can earn/accumulate credits only in case of successful completion of the work described in the course syllabuses, after receiving a positive assessment.
The maximum grade per academic course is 100 points.
Positive assessments:
(A) Excellent – 91 points and up;
(B) Very good – 81-90 points of the maximum assessment;
(C) Good – 71-80 points of the maximum assessment;
(D) Satisfactory – 61-70 points of the maximum assessment;
(E) Enough – 51-60 points of the maximum.
Negative assessments:
(FX) Didn’t pass – 41-50 points of the maximum assessments;
(F) Fail – 40 points or less of the maximum assessment.
Students with grade FX have the right to retake the final exam;
Students with grade F must retake the course.
The student’s assessment takes place during the entire academic semester. Consequently, the student’s final assessment is the sum of interim assessments and final exam results.
Final examination maximum score is 40 of the total 100 points; the remaining 60 points are distributed according to interim assessments.
Only the students who have earned the minimal number of 25 points during the semester through interim assessments are allowed to take the final exam.
Students who do not have a compulsory minimum score (25) will not be admitted to the final examination. The minimum mandatory score for the final exam is 16.
In order to determine the student's final rating and to encourage them to study well, the cumulative score, Grade Point Average* (GPA) is calculated at the end of the academic process (grade point average is also calculated at the end of each semester).

To complete the International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor’s Degree Program, students must earn 240 credits.
The standard duration of the bachelor's degree program is 4 years (2 semesters/year). During one academic year, students accumulate 60 credits, i.e. 30 credits per semester. However, depending on a student's individual schedule, the number of credits per year can be either more or less than 60, but not more than 75, and the program must be completed in a maximum of 6 years.
In the compulsory academic subject, the students earn 178 credits, in the elective subjects - 62 credits.
Accumulation of elective credits depends on students' interests; elective credits can be earned through:
- Developing general skills through elective subjects;
- Learning a second foreign language;
- Specialty elective subjects;
- Practical component;
- Research component;
- Free components.
To facilitate mobility and exchange programs, the International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor’s Degree Program includes the free component with 12 credits, which can be earned through:
- Academic educational programs in GAU Law, Social Sciences & Diplomacy School or other GAU educational programs of the same level;
- Academic educational programs of the same level in other Georgian higher educational institutions;
- Academic educational programs of the same level in foreign higher educational institutions, providing these credits are recognized by the Georgian legislation.

Tuition Fee
An annual tuition fee of the GAU International Relations & Diplomacy Bachelor's Degree Program is 4,500* GEL. Payments are made twice a year, with equal parts, before the beginning of each semester.

Scholarships
1. TOP GRANT - Full Scholarship
Applicants who make it to the Top 1000 in the overall Bachelor's Exam Scores and choose Georgian American University will have their bachelor's studies fully funded at GAU - 240 credits (in case of re-election and /or additional selection of any subject, the student will have to pay the respective credit cost).
2. Financial support based on Grade Point Average (GPA):
GAU students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree Programs of the School of Law, Social Sciences & Diplomacy become eligible for academic scholarships after completing their first semester of study. International Relations and Diplomacy Master's Program consists of international, regional and subregional aspects and includes elements of public as well as corporate relations. The program is enriched with related and connected courses, which increase the practical and academic value of the program in terms of preparing qualified personnel.
The program gives students the opportunity to receive interdisciplinary education, study topical issues and main challenges of global policy and international relations, enhance theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: International Security, Social Research Methods, European Integration, International Organizations, International Conflicts, Political Economy, forms of Political Communication, etc.
The program prepares students for successful careers in government agencies, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and international corporations.
Moreover, Georgian-American University International Relations and Diplomacy Master's Program offers the students broad knowledge of one of the following regions:
- Russia and the post-Soviet space;
- Europe;
- The Middle East and Arab World;
- America (USA).
The program focuses exclusively on learning a foreign language - the mandatory courses include professional English language, moreover, some of the academic courses are taught in English. Students also study the second foreign language (German, French, Russian, Turkish).

Georgian citizens who have the bachelor's or equivalent degree can be enrolled in International Relations & Diplomacy Master's Degree Program, based on the General Graduate Examinations results, the internal English language test and the interview.
The applicant must complete the B2 level test in English. A person who has the language certificate or has passed the undergraduate program in English is exempted from testing.
Students can be enrolled in International Relations & Diplomacy Master's Degree Program through the mobility program twice a year, within the timeframe established by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, in compliance with mandatory procedures and fixed rules established by the University. In the academic component and the practical component, students earn 95 credits, in the research component – 25 credits.
Accumulation of elective credits depends on students' interests and can be earned through one of the regional concentrations below:
- Russia and the post-Soviet space;
- Europe;
- The Middle East and the Arab world;
- United States of America (USA).
To facilitate mobility and participation in exchange programs, the International Relations & Diplomacy Master's Program includes the free component with 15 credits, which can be earned through:
- Elective subjects from the same academic module;
- GAU Law, Social Sciences and Diplomacy School programs or other GAU educational programs of the same level;
- Academic educational programs of the same level in other Georgian higher education institutions;
- Academic educational programs of the same level in foreign higher education institutions, providing these credits are accepted by GAU and the Georgian legislation.

In the International Relations and Diplomacy Doctoral Program students have an opportunity to conduct scientific research and pedagogic activities under the supervision of Georgian and foreign highly qualified scientists. The Doctoral Program is especially strong in the direction of international relations theory, political sociology, security studies, international political economy and European research.
GAU Law, International Relations and Diplomacy School facilitates the development of scientific projects and research centers (institutions), through encouraging research initiatives of its academic personnel and doctoral program graduates.
At present, there are Russian Research and Constitutionalism; and Civil Society and Democracy functioning within GAU Law, Social Sciences and Diplomacy School research institutes.
Upon completion of the program, the Doctor of Social Sciences will have the opportunity to continue his/her work in the academic sector, or find employment in the public sector, as a researcher or analyst in existing research projects and institutions.
GAU enables PhD Program students to complete the academic component and/or carry out part of the research component in foreign higher education institutions, through exchange programs.
Phd Program students have the opportunity to participate in foreign exchange programs and study abroad in higher educational institutions.

Only Georgian citizens who have a Master's degree or qualification of the same level, and knowledge of foreign language (English), at least B2 level can be enrolled in the International Relations & Diplomacy PhD Program;
In order to establish the level of foreign language knowledge, the applicant shall be tested by the temporary faculty committee; A person who has a language certificate of the relevant level and/or has completed the second cycle academic program in foreign language (English), shall be freed from assessment testing; The applicant has an interview with GAU Law, Social Sciences and Diplomacy School (faculty) Dissertation Board.
Students can enroll in the International Relations & Diplomacy PhD Program through mobility twice a year, in compliance with Georgian American University regulations and mandatory procedures and timeframe established by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia. The dissertation assessment is carried out after completion by the PhD student, in the same or next semester. The thesis is assessed only once (final assessment).
The doctoral dissertation is assessed according to the following system:
Positive assessments:
Excellent (summa cum laude) – remarkable, outstanding work;
Very good (magna cum laude) – the result that exceeds all the requirements in every way;
Good (cum laude) – the result exceeds the requirements;
Average (bene) – medium-level work that satisfies the basic requirements;
Satisfactory (rite) – the result, which, despite the errors and gaps, still meets the basic requirements.
Negative assessments:
Insufficient – unsatisfactory level work that fails to meet requirements due to significant shortcomings;
Completely insufficient (sub omni canone) – the result which doesn’t meet requirements.
In the event of receiving one of the positive assessments PhD student is awarded academic doctoral degree.
If the dissertation paper receives/gets an “insufficient” grade, the student has the right to submit the revised dissertation paper. In case of “completely insufficient” (sub omnicanone) assessment, the student loses the right to present the revised thesis.
To complete the International Relations PhD Program, students must earn 180 credits.
The standard duration of tuition for the doctoral program is 3 years (2 semesters/year). During one academic year a student accumulates 60 credits, i.e. 30 credits per semester, however, depending on student's individual schedule, the number of credits per year can be either more or less than 60, but not more than 75.
The International Relations PhD Program is divided into three components: academic, scientific-research and free.
The academic component is a combination of academic elements, aiming at the development of students' professional and methodological skills, prepares them for the doctoral thesis and future scientific-research and/or pedagogical activities.
In the academic component, a student earns 60 credits, in the research component – 120 credits.
To facilitate mobility and participation in exchange programs, Law PhD Program includes the free component with 15 credits, which a student chooses from the following alternatives:
- GAU Law, Social Sciences and Diplomacy School programs or other GAU educational programs of the same level;
- Academic educational programs of the same level in other Georgian higher education institutions;
- Academic educational programs of the same level in foreign higher education institutions, provided these credits are accepted by the Georgian legislation.

Scholarships for the 2025-2026 Academic Year
1. Financial support for GAU Graduates:
If you are a GAU graduate, in case of enrollment in the Doctoral Program you will receive a GAU grant of 20% during the entire period of study.

50% funding is available for the staff employed in GAU, for the entire period of studying.
3. Funding for GAU professors:
There is a 20% funding for GAU professors for the entire period of study.
